Personal profile

Personal profile

I am currently a Professor of Medicine and Director of Rheumatic and Autoimmune Diseases. I am also a Core Faculty member within the Center for Immunology, where I lead its Center for Autoimmune Diseases Research Program. Finally, I am an active clinician in the practice of Rheumatology, with a focus on inflammatory arthritis. I hold the John F. Finn Arthritis Foundation Land Grant Chair.

My research program examines the regulation of CD4 T cell and B cell antigen responsiveness and immune self-tolerance in individuals prone to the development of autoimmune arthritis. This includes the investigation of CD4 T cell anergy induction and Foxp3+ Treg cell generation in mouse models of arthritis (Martinez RJ et al.; Taylor JJ et al.; Kalekar L et al.), as well investigations of self-antigen driven B cell activation, Ig gene recombination, and differentiation in humans with rheumatoid arthritis (Lloyd KA et al.; Steen J. et al.; Titcombe PJ et al.).
