My training in physics, with a Ph.D. thesis on time series analysis, provided me with the expertise to analyze data collected as a function of time to extract pertinent information for the characterization of complex systems and the forecasting of their future evolution. My lifelong career in chronobiology gave me the opportunity to broadly apply this knowledge to the fields of medicine and biology more generally. These skills are eminently suitable for dealing with serial data now becoming more readily available from physiological monitors. My training in science education and teaching experience at different levels -- ranging from high school students to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as to colleagues who are leaders in their fields -- prepared me well to convey difficult concepts clearly and effectively. As Director of the Halberg Chronobiology Center at the University of Minnesota, I have experience in successfully administering projects, including staffing, budgeting, and research protection. My extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals in cooperation with over 100 co-workers worldwide testify to my motivation and ability to bring projects to their fruitful completion. They also helped me sharpen my communication skills. My expertise in the field of blood pressure monitoring in health and disease, drawing from diverse populations in the USA and abroad provides a rich source of information to better understand how features of blood pressure variability relate to cardiovascular disease risk.
