Abstract
Two numerical microsegregation models are presented which can be used to check approximate microsegregation relationships used for large-scale solidification analysis. In the first, the solidification is controlled by a constant cooling rate, while a parabolic growth rate is assumed in the second. Both account for solute back-diffusion into the solid and coarsening of the arm space. Comparison with limiting analytical solutions and measurements indicate that both models function correctly and can provide accurate and practical results.
