Abstract

A motion device for Mössbauer experiments is described consisting of a large moving stage supported on air bearings and driven by a servo-controlled hydraulic piston. The displacement of the table is detected using optical gratings. Velocity stability and reproducibility is within 0.1 % over a range 0.01 to 25 mm s-1.
