Abstract
On making suitable approximations for the redistribution of solute in the solid and the nature of coarsening a semi-analytical microsegregation and coarsening model for the analysis of the solidification of a constantly cooled binary eutectic alloy is developed. This model is calibrated by matching results with a limiting case microsegregation model and the standard t(1/3) coarsening model. Predictions - arm spacing and eutectic fractions - are in close agreement with experimental values and predictions obtained with a complete numerical solution of microsegregation with coarsening.
