Abstract
Obtaining useful results from an experiment involves appropriately processing the instrument signals. From the myriad of information in a hot-wire signal, for instance, we want to extract quantities that characterize important aspects of the flow, e.g., transport rates and evidence of coherent structure. These quantities may be mean values, mean-square values, correlation functions, probability distributions, turbulence scales, spectra, etc.
