Abstract

A chopper architecture using heterodyne frequency selection provides both amplification and flexible bandpower extraction of neural signals. The bandpass center frequency is tunable from DC to 500Hz and the filter BW is programmable from 5 to 25Hz using an on-chip 3rd-order LPF. The filter configuaration is stored in on-chip non-volatile memory. The 2μV rms noise floor for a 10Hz band enables detection of key biomarkers. The "brain radio" including amplifiers, clocks and multipliers consumes 8μW from a 2V supply.
