Abstract
Field and laboratory studies are underway to evaluate and design blind inlets. These inlets are increasingly being used as an alternative to flush pipe surface drains. As part of these studies, unique data collection methods have been developed and are described in the paper. A water-quality sampling algorithm is proposed using a calculated curve number, which fluctuates not only with soil moisture conditions but also with crop cover. Cumulative runoff volume is used to ensure that samples are gathered for large events. The design of sampling cores to determine sedimentation depth within blind inlets is also discussed.
