Abstract
One of the ultimate goals of developmental cognitive neuroscience and psychology is to link complex behavioral change to the equally intricate structural and physiological changes of the neural substrate. Attaining this goal poses significant challenges. Despite the temporal relationship of brain and cognitive development, specific aspects of developmental neurobiology are not easily linked to the ontogenetic emergence or refinement of cognitive skills. This article offers an overview of selected topics on human brain development to provide a context for relating brain development to cognitive development.
