Abstract

Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) used with Random Early Detection (RED) is known to reduce delays for low-bandwidth delay-sensitive Transport Control Protocol (TCP) connections by avoiding unnecessary packet drops and retransmissions. However, choosing the optimum values for buffer size and RED parameters is still an on-going research topic. In this paper, we present a model to determine the buffer size and RED parameters to minimize packet losses at a RED gateway.
