Cardiovascular Manifestations of Pediatric Rheumatic Diseases

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Essentially all pediatric rheumatic diseases can affect the cardiovascular system. This chapter discusses the most common cardiovascular manifestations of these diverse diseases. The link between chronic inflammatory disease and long-term risk of coronary artery disease is highlighted, with emphasis on controlling the inflammatory state to improve long-term cardiac outcomes. The cardiovascular side effects of anti-rheumatic medications are discussed, as are rheumatic conditions induced by cardiovascular drugs.
