Abstract
This article addresses six of the many challenges of working in a multicultural setting. As library staffs and patrons become increasingly diverse, it is critical that library administrations create environments where all individuals feel comfortable and supported. It is equally important that all individuals working in libraries are given equal opportunity to gain professional satisfaction and success, as well as demonstrate their unique strengths and skills. The six challenges addressed include: (1) fluctuating power dynamics; (2) merging a diversity of opinions and approaches; (3) overcoming perceived lack of empathy; (4) tokenism, reality or perception?; (5) accountability; and (6) transforming challenges into Opportunities.
