Abstract

An epoxy-bonded LiNbO//3-YIG-LiNbO//3 composite structure has been constructed and operated as a magnetoelastic Rayleigh wave convolver. Relatively efficient convolution was observed corresponding to an internal efficiency F(int) equals minus 53 dbm. 50 MHz Rayleigh waves propagating in a (001) direction on a (110) YIG surface were used and the convolution magnitude was studied as a function of the magnitude and direction of the applied magnetic field. Nonuniform demagnetizing fields limited input pulses to less than 1. 5 microsecond duration. However, the convolution signal is shown to be a useful tool for probing the spatial variation of the demagnetizing fields.
