Abstract

A total of 133 overburden sites and 36 red ore tailing sites were sampled. The overburden dumps ranged in age from 0 to 74 years. The ages of the tailings basins ranged from 2 to 36 years. Soil samples were analyzed to determine sand, silt, and clay fractions, bulk density, coarse fragments, pH, organic carbon, exchangeable calcium, magnesium, potassium, Kjeldahl nitrogen, and available phosphorus. Recommendations for enhancing vegetative growth are given.
