Abstract

Several computer circuit lab experiments performed by students to investigate digital computers functions, including arithmetic circuits are discussed. A simple microcontroller based instrument, Carroll's Gadget, was developed which implements a 12-key telephone keypad input and a 16-character hexadecimal display. The students beradboard the circuits, rather than simulation, which provide them a better understanding of how the circuits work. Carroll's Gadget proved very useful to the students by providing them input and output devices in the gadget which make them enable to design and build pieces of digital computer circuits.
