Abstract

Two new efficient higher-order continuum models are proposed to improve modelling of traffic dynamics. The new models do not require the use of an equilibrium speed-density relationship, and address traffic friction due to lane changing through a viscosity term. Both models appear to be more accurate and computationally more efficient when compared to similar models and field data.
