N2 - Experiments with β-galactosidase of Escherichia coli and alkaline phosphatase of Bacillus subtilis lead to the conclusion that, after repression of messenger RNA synthesis, there can be detected preformed messengers which code for the synthesis of complete polypeptide chains. It is further suggested that the lability of these intact messengers is about the same as that of messengers as a whole, and that intact messengers can be protected from decay during anaerobic incubation.
