Abstract

(Dicyano)iodonium triflate (NC)2I+-OTf can be prepared by the reaction of O=I-OTf with cyanotrimethylsilane and isolated as an air sensitive crystalline solid unstable at room temperature. This compound generated in situ reacts with tributyltin derivatives of various aromatic compounds or acetylenes at -40 °C forming the corresponding iodonium salts in good yield.
