Abstract
In this chapter numerical and experimental results are compared in order to validate the numerical model and its solution. The discrepancies between the numerical and experimental results are analyzed to understand the underlying cause of the disagreement. In particular, the validity of the one-domain formulation is discussed. Numerical results available in the literature are compared, and the discrepancies among different modeling approaches are reviewed. Thereafter the importance of the present study in the context of the overall problem of convection in composite fluid-porous systems is discussed.
