Does quark-gluon-plasma formation suppress charmonium production?

Abstract

It has recently been suggested that the production of charmonium in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions should be suppressed if quark-gluon plasma is formed because of color screening of the quark-antiquark potential. A reconsideration of the time scales involved, and of the mechanisms for producing charm in hadron-hadron collisions, leaves some doubt as to whether or not charmonium suppression should be expected.
