Abstract
With consideration of these results a modification of the Dugdale-Barenblatt model has been proposed to include two distinctive non-linear zones at the crack tip. The zone immediately next to the crack opening is ″semicohesive″ in that it is filled with microcracks and voids while the furthest cohesive zone is the standard plastic zone. It was demonstrated that with this modification the Dugdale approach can be used to describe craze arrest or equilibrium in terms of the individual properties of the plastic zone and craze.
