Electrical excitation of plasmons in graphene through the 2D Čerenkov effect

Abstract

We show that charge carriers flowing inside graphene can emit graphene plasmons (GPs) through a 2D Čerenkov effect (ČE), providing a highly efficient, tunable, and ultrafast conversion mechanism from electrical signal to plasmonic excitation.
