Abstract

The design of metal binding sites into native protein scaffolds was discussed. Most native scaffolds have high thermodynamic stability and extraordinary tolerance for residue substitution, deletion and insertion. The resulting protein can more often assume globular rather than molten globular forms and is more amenable to spectroscopic and x ray crystallographic characterization.
