Abstract
Epidemiology is a broad field that includes the study of the occurrence, distribution, and determinants of diseases and other health-related conditions in populations, and the application of this study to control health problems. In order to address such a broad ranges of issues an extensive number of epidemiologic methods have been developed. This chapter summarizes the application of epidemiologic methods to the study of osteoporosis and related fractures. Knowledge gained aims to improve the reader's critical evaluation of published research studies, choice of study design in addressing a research question, and understanding of basic epidemiologic terms and principles.
