Abstract

To the Editor: The report by Hanto and his colleagues of the dramatic response to acyclovir by an Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-associated polyclonal B-cell lymphoma in a renal-transplant recipient (April 15 issue¹) brings new hope to all involved in treating these complications. However, we disagree for two reasons with the authors' conclusion that their results support their previous hypothesis that such polyclonal lymphomas may evolve into monoclonal neoplasms.² First of all, although the authors were diligent in their demonstration of the polyclonal lesion in lymph nodes 16 and 31 weeks after transplantation, they failed to mention histologic findings of the.
