Abstract

The case for river conservation is placed in the context of global ecosystem conservation. Five options for river conservation, ranging from complete preservation to dereliction, are outlined. A case study of the River Spey in Scotland is included. Ten ways of strengthening the scientific case for river conservations are suggested. (D.W.T.)
