Abstract

Some of the important points to help navigate the new path toward research management are presented. Most problems that are encountered in the laboratory along the management are the minor disagreements among individuals regarding use of shared equipment/supplies, scheduling, and many more. Working with one's institution's department of human resources will assure that legal requirements surrounding family leave, American Disabilities Act and OSHA, etc. are met. Fear of making a tough decision is understandable because of both immediate and long-term consequences that could ultimately affect one or another's career or health. In assessing the various types of conflicts and interpersonal issues that arise, it is helpful to avoid these common mistakes, such as conflict avoidance, waiting too long to intervene, fear of tough decisions, criticism without enough praise, and lack of creativity in approaching conflict resolution.
