Abstract
A stripper testing unit was used to evaluate the stripping technique for reducing harvesting losses of wild rice. With a parallel orientation and tangential motion feeding arrangement stripping efficiencies of 88-95% were obtained depending on the stripping speed. The percentage of material-other-than-grain that was incorporated with the stripped grain was 12-25 With a perpendicular orientation and tangential motion feeding arrangement stripping efficiencies of 96-99% were obtained and were not affected by stripping speed. The percentage of material-other-than-grain was 7-31 ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT: A stripper testing unit was used to evaluate the stripping concept for wild rice (Zizania aquatica). The stripping of heads with potential stripper harvesters was simulated. The stripping efficiency was 88-95 with 12-25% of material other than grain broken down in the mechanism and incorporated with the grain.
