Abstract
Questionnaires were sent to the 40 graduates of the University of Michigan Dermatology Training Program who maintained a part-time or full-time academic affiliation. From the 38 questionnaires returned, information was available regarding attitudes and experience before, during, and after a dermatology residency. It was concluded that enthusiasm on the part of the faculty and the presence of teaching and research opportunities were the most important factors in the choice of an academic career.
