Abstract

The First International IEEE Symposium on Intelligent Systems (IS ′02), held 10-12 September 2002 in Varna, Bulgaria, was intended to give scientists and engineers the opportunity to present their new research achievements and applications and to discuss the current status and future trends in the area of intelligent systems. In addition to the main technical program, the conference featured an extended invited session, two student sessions, and a roundtable discussion. Presented papers covered the methodological aspects, technical solutions, and practical applications of intelligent systems applied mainly to complex systems with high dimensionality, nonlinearity, uncertainty, time variability, and structural changes.
