Abstract

The discussion on fluid mechanics measurements for non-Newtonian fluid flow looks at some basic types of flow behaviour and examines the more useful constitutive relations and discusses how these relations can be verified. A brief survey of rheometers in shear and extension flows, is presented. The special problems encountered with non-Newtonian fluids in using Newtonian fluid flow measurement techniques are discussed and materials, particularly flow birefringence are described.
