Abstract

The preparation and characterization of a fluorescent 1-pyreneacrylate-concanavalin A conjugate are described. Excitation, emission, and polarization spectra are presented as well as quantum yield and fluorescence lifetimes. Perrin plots examining the rotational behavior of the pyrene-Con A complex show good agreement with those previously published for other fluorophore-Con A conjugates. The suitability of this flurorphore as a donor for resonance energy transfer studies is discussed.
