Some of the clinical uses and significance of cardiac action potential recording are analyzed. Some of the significant clinical uses of cardiac action potentials recordings include, quantification of myocardial and repolarization to evaluate the specific electrophysiological effects of drugs, the study of the effects of the dispersion profile on the relative ventricular repolarization, and the investigation of T waves and underlying mechanism of elicited T wave alternants. Another application of cardiac action potential recording is the facilitation of the localization of precise ablation targets. Two types of cardiac action potentials exist in various regions of the heart, including fast response and slow response. Both types of cardiac action potentials take around 200-500 ms for completion.
