N2 - 1. 1. Twelve species of birds of the order Procellariiformes were examined using electrophoresis at 16 genetic loci. 2. 2. The distributions of genetic distances, based on allelic frequencies, were concordant with the taxonomic ranking of the 12 species. 3. 3. The genetic distances for these nonpasserines were small by comparison with nonavian taxa, but larger than those reported for passerine birds.
