Abstract

In dentistry, as in medicine, geriatrics has become an increasingly important topic during the last decade. The increased incidence of chronic disease and concomitant polypharmacy in the geriatric population and their impact (direct or indirect) on oral health has a significant influence on dental treatment. Consideration of the disease trends and disease manifestations allows the dentist to modify traditional dental procedures to treat affected patients in the optimal manner. Consultation between the dentist and physician will help to safeguard and possibly to improve the systemic health of the patient.
