Abstract

Grain size reduction in Co/Pd multilayer perpendicular magnetic recording media with NiAl as a seedlayer and a pinning layer was studied. Magnetic properties and film surface structure were studied by gradient force magnetometer (GFM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) respectively. Results showed that NiAl reduces the grain size of magnetic layers and perpendicular coercivity increased.
