Abstract

Volume one of this handbook (see 94L/10099) concentrated on techniques and particularly on tests used for prediction. The second volume is largely concerned with the results from these tests for general categories of chemicals. This volume is divided into two parts. The first reviews the ecotoxicological properties of the following major chemical categories: gaseous compounds; acid solutions; heavy metals; organometallic compounds in the aquatic environment; detergents; pesticides; PCBs, PCDDs and PCDFs; oils and hydrocarbons; and organic pollution, biochemical oxygen demand and ammonia. For each major chemical category methods of chemical analysis are described and results are reviewed from the ecotoxicity tests described in the first volume. The second part addresses: complex mixtures; the octanol-water partition coefficient; quantitative structure-activity relationships; fate models; and prioritization and standards for hazardous chemicals. -from Publisher
