N2 - Two points must be stressed regarding exposure of healthcare workers to human immunodeficiency virus. First, counseling is crucial to an effective program for healthcare workers, although justification to administrative personnel may be difficult. Second, because the approach outlined in this article is far from ideal and is based on extremely few data, many variations are likely to be acceptable. We hope that these ideas can be used as building blocks in the continuously evolving structure of AIDS management.
