Abstract

A set of problem packages is described emphasizing dynamics and mechanisms, which has been developed at the University of Minnesota. The packages are compiled to present pre-programmed mathematical models along with a user strategy to illustrate important principles in mechanisms and dynamics. Several representative packages are described to illustrate the educational framework in which the hybrid computer is used. Important aspects of these packages are the computer-generated graphic display of output. An important feature of the program packages is their use to establish a bridge between system dynamics involving deformable elements, and the area of mechanisms and machine dynamics. The computer packages implement an understanding of the role of elasticity and constraint in dynamical systems which have no closed form solutions.
