Cells from two scrologically different strains of Streptococcus mutans strain B13 and strain IB were treated immuno-histochemically for electron microscopy. Both strains were incubated first with specific rabbit anti-B13 serum and then with sheep anti-rabbit serum labelled with horse-radish peroxidase and finally histochemically stained for peroxidase activity. Strain B13 treated with the specific antiserum and exposed to the complete immuno-histochemical procedure revealed a halo of moderate electron-dense material outside the cell wall. All controls were negative.
