N2 - The St. Anthony Falls Bridge was constructed to replace the steel truss bridge that collapsed on August 1, 2007. The replacement bridge featured a "smart bridge" system. This system included instrumentation for monitoring the structural behavior of the bridge. The University of Minnesota is responsible for the collection and interpretation of the data gathered by the system. To aid in the analysis of the bridge, finite element models were created. Prior to opening the bridge to traffic, truck load tests were conducted to provide data for calibrating the model. The models will be used to gain a better understanding of the behavior of concrete box girder bridges in Minnesota, and for establishing a long-term monitoring plan for the instrumented bridge. This paper describes the instrumentation in the St. Anthony Falls Bridge, the construction and calibration of the finite element models, the behavior of the bridge with respect to the truck load tests and thermal effects, and the plan for long-term monitoring.
