Abstract

This report describes a hydraulic model study of the intakes and related approach flow regions for the St. Cloud Hydroelectric Project. The hydroelectric facility will be composed of two 4-Mw pit turbine/generator units utilizing approximately 17 ft of head with a design flow of 3,250 cfs each. The objectives of the model study were to reduce head losses and intake vortices, and to equalize velocity distribution on both sides of the generator pit. Various conclusions are drawn from the model study and recommendations regarding the design modifications are made.
