This is the summary report of the National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Conference on intraocular lens implantation (Vol. 2, No.7), sponsored by the National Eye Institute with assistance from the Office for Medical Applications of Research, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. The NIH consensus development program brings together practicing physicians, biomedical research scientists, consumers, and others in an effort to reach general agreement on the safety and efficacy of a medical technology, whether it be a drug, device, or procedure. Previous conferences have covered topics such as breast cancer screening, asbestos exposure and dental implants.
