Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Covers the history of hydropower engineering, world hydropower potential, different types of developments (e.g. run-of-river, storage regulation, pumped storage, single or multipurpose), components of hydropower facilities, hydropower project development procedures and sequences, and the advantages and disadvantages of hydropower developments. Escalation of energy costs has made hydroelectric power generation more attractive, and future development depends on finding innovative ways to reduce costs while minimizing environmental impact.
