Abstract

Native lignins are generally conceived as being crosslinked macromolecules of 'infinite' extent that are constituted from (p-hydroxyphenyl)propane units by an essentially random proportionate distribution of eight different linkages. This paper discusses current opinion on kraft lignins, their physicochemical properties, associative behavior, and future approaches to characterization studies.
