Abstract
A cw diode-laser-pumped neodymium vanadate laser has been tested that uses an internal diffractive optic for aberration correction. The aberration profile was measured by an interferometer and a diffractive element containing the complex conjugate of the aberration was placed directly after the crystal. After correction, single-mode operation at 20 watts was achieved, resulting in an output power that was three times higher than without the corrector. The performance of the cavity was also studied when the correction was performed at the end mirror. In addition to completely correcting for the aberration, this configuration can enhanced the discrimination against higher-order modes.
