Abstract
The linear viscoelastic (LVE) limits of a range of conventional and modified bituminous binders were investigated by means of stress/strain sweeps using a dynamic shear rheometer (DSR). Plots of LVE stress and strain limits versus complex modulus and phase angle were produced. No significant narrowing of the linearity range for the modified bitumens was observed. The process modified, plastomeric and conventional binders showed a strain dependent LVE criteria between 2 and 6 percent at low temperatures as well as a stress dependent LVE criteria between 1.5 and 7 kPa at high temperatures.
