Abstract

Management information systems (MIS) provide information to support management activities. Key research issues related to MIS in agribusiness firms are identified in this article. Four themes in MIS research are first reviewed: the relationship between organizational design and MIS design, decision support, database design and data resource management, and MIS planning and management. MIS problems faced by small and large agribusiness firms and by information providers are then described. Finally, research opportunities in three broad areas—information systems analysis and design for small firms, design and development of MIS components, and markets for information products and services—are discussed.
