Abstract
Because of the increasing complexity of both medical and dental treatment and the numbers of individuals with chronic medical problems, the dentist and physician must be aware and knowledgable that many chronic disorders or their treatments may manifest in the oral cavity and may have an impact upon both medical and dental treatment. These conditions necessitate recognition, diagnosis, and early referral as well as alterations in the provision of dental or medical treatment.
