Abstract
A model of natural ventilation was developed combining wind and thermal buoyancy effects based on established theoretical work. The model, developed for steady state conditions, calculates the inside temperature and ventilation rate in a swine finishing barn based on outside temperature, wind speed and direction, opening sizes, building configuration, and other operating conditions. Calculated inside temperatures were compared with field measurement for three days of data. The coefficient of determination between the measured and calculated inside temperature was 0.995 and the estimated standard error was 1.3° C.
